Dean

Recently, Dean was able to leave his hospital bed at Osborne Park Hospital to spend precious time doing something he had always loved — fishing — surrounded by family, fresh air and the calming rhythm of the water.

For a few beautiful hours, the focus was not on illness or appointments, but on connection. On sharing stories and simply being together in a place that brought comfort, familiarity and dignity – as Dean’s life and passions were gently honoured.

A keen fisherman, Dean had spent many happy days fishing with his two sons at Matilda Bay, creating memories that would last a lifetime. So it was only fitting that his wish was to return to the water at Pelican Point and enjoy that simple joy once more.

Dean has also given so much back to the community as a dedicated member of Fremantle Marine Rescue. In a touching and meaningful moment, the crew dropped by with their boat to say hello — a surprise that meant the world to him and made the day even more special.

This deeply meaningful wish was made possible through the kindness and dedication of our wonderful volunteers – Alec, Pat and Tresna – who supported Dean and his family every step of the way with compassion, respect and care.

Through our work, we help terminally ill West Australians experience moments that truly matter — whether that’s returning to a favourite place, revisiting a lifelong passion, or spending quiet, meaningful time with the people they love.

Every wish is provided at no cost to families. Our work relies entirely on the generosity of our community and the commitment of trained volunteers who help make these precious moments possible.

If Dean’s story has touched your heart, please consider supporting us by making a donation or submitting a wish request for someone you love. Together, we can help turn precious time into lasting memories.
